SALAT OF THE QURAN

SALAT means Following closely to God by remembering God and following his commandments in our daily lives. It can be achieved by taking heed (Rukku) on the message from God and surrendering (Sujjud) to the commandments of God.

Following verse clearly shows the difference between a Prayer and a Salat.

14:40 “My Lord, let me establish (Muqeema) the following closely (Al Salati), and also from my progeny. Our Lord, and accept my PRAYER (DuAAi).”

MEANING OF THE WORD SALAT ACCORDING TO THE QURAN

The word Salat came from the root word Sad-Lam-Waw which means to follow closely/closeness/attachment/remain attached.

The following verses explain the meaning of the word Salla.

75:31 For he did not confirm the truth (Saddaqa) nor remained attach/followed closely (SALLA).

75:32 But he denied (Kadhaba) and turned away (Tawalla).

So Salla means remain attach/follow closely after confirming the truth Saddaqa.

SIX TYPES OF SALAT (CLOSENESS/ATTACHMENT) IN THE QURAN

1- Salat from God & Angels to Human 33:43

2- Salat from God to Human 2:157

3- Salat from God to messenger also Salat from Believers to Messenger 33:56

4- Salat from Messenger to Believers 9:1103, 9:99

5- Salat of everything in the heavens and the earth 24:41

6- Salat from Human to God 2:3

1- SALAT FROM GOD & ANGELS TO HUMAN 33:43

33:43 “He is the One who remain attach/follow closely (Yusalli) Over to you (Alaikum), along with His angels, to bring you out of darkness and into the light. And He is ever Merciful towards the believers.”

2- SALAT FROM GOD TO HUMAN 2:157

2:156 The ones who, when afflicted with adversity, they say: “We are to God and to Him we will return.”

2:157 “For those there will be Closeness/Attachment (Salawaat) from their lord and a mercy, they are the guided ones.”

3- SALAT FROM GOD TO MESSENGER ALSO SALAT FROM BELIEVERS TO MESSENGER 33:56

33:56 “Indeed God and His angels remain attach/follow closely (Yusaloona) Over to (Allan) the Prophet (Nabi). O you who believe, you shall remain attach/follow closely (Saloo Alaihi), and greet him with compliance.”

4- SALAT FROM MESSENGER TO BELIEVERS 9:1103, 9:99

9:103 “Take from their money a charity (Sadaqatan) to purify them and develop them with it, and you remain attach/follow closely (Salli) over to them (Alaihim) Your Closeness/Attachment (Salawaat) is a tranquility for them; and God is Hearer, Knowledgeable.”

9:99 “And from the Arabs are those who believe in God and the Last Day, and he looks upon what he spends to make him closer to God, and Closeness/Attachment (Salawaati) of the Messenger (Ar Rasool). It indeed makes them closer. God will admit them in His mercy; God is Forgiving, Merciful.”

5- SALAT OF EVERYTHING IN THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH

24:41 Do you not see that to God everything in the heavens and the earth glorify (Yusabbihu) for him? Even the birds in formation, All knows its Closeness/Attachment (Salat) and its glorification (Tasbeeh). And God is fully aware of everything they do.

6- SALAT OF HUMAN TO GOD

According to these verses we have to show closeness/attachment to the remembrance (Zikr) of God in our life. So the objective of human to God Salat is the remembrance (Zikr) of God (29:45, 20:14, 62:9).

29:45 Recite (O Muhammad) what is inspired to you of the Book and Establish (AQIMI) the following closely (Salat), for the following closely  (Salat) prohibits immorality (Fahshai) and unacceptable deeds (Munkari); but certainly the remembrance of God is greater (Godi Akbaru). God knows everything you do.

20:14 “I am God, there is no god except Me, so serve Me (O Moses) and establish the following closely (Salat) for My remembrance.”

62:9 “O you who believe, when the call/announcement is made (Nudiya) for following closely (Salat), in/during the time of gathering, hasten earnestly to the remembrance of God and leave off the trade, that is better for you if you have the knowledge.”

THE ZIKR (REMEMBRANCE)

15:9 God has sent the Zikr

36:69 This is a reminder (Zikr) and a clear Qur’an

38:1 Ṣad, and the Qur’an that contains the remembrance (Zikr)

65:10 God has sent down to you a remembrance (Zikr)

54:17, 54:22, 54:32, 54:40 And We made the Qur’an easy to remember (Lil+Zikri). Is there anyone who would remember (Muddakir)?

3:58 This is what We recite to you from the revelations and the wise reminder (Zikri).

THE QURAN IS THE BEST TOOL FOR THE REMEMBRANCE (ZIKR) OF GOD

The best tool available for the remembrance of God is the Book (the Quran). This is the reason why God said read/recite the Quran and establish Salat 17:78-79, 29:45, 35:29, 7:170, 6:92, 73:20.

WHAT DOES AQAMU SALAT (ESTABLISH THE FOLLOWING CLOSELY) MEANS?

Aqamu Salat means establish the following closely in our daily lives. It can be achieved by taking heed (Rukku) on the Message of God and by Surrendering (Sujjud) to the commandments of God.

According to the Quran the reading of the Book with understanding and applying it in our daily lives from Dawn to Dusk is part of the Salat. Also giving Dawah of the Quran through the Quran to other people in form of congregation.

By our nature, we human beings are limited, we tend to forget, and Satan on a constant mission to deceive us, and various things in life tends to distract us and it takes time for us to comprehend the truth and it takes repetition for us to maintain awareness regarding the greatest matter in life, God, The truth and the test etc. The Salat (following closely) is meant to helps us achieve that goal of awareness as well as remembrance of God, which will result in us constantly purifying our souls.

SALAT (CLOSENESS/ATTACHMENT) OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD

It was duty of Prophet Muhammad as a Messenger to deliver the Message of God to the people so he recited the Quran in Salats as he was the only one with the Quran at that time and believers were required to attend these Salats to receive the message.

This is the reason why God commanded Prophet Muhammad in the Quran to establish (AQIMI) the Salat (following closely) at Specific Times (17:78-79, 11:114). The times were specific to the movements of the sun [At the edges of the day near part of the night (Fajir & Isha)], So that it was easy for the believers to attend the Salats (closenesses/attachments) and know when to be there.

We know that Prophet Muhammad died in 632 AD and he delivered the complete and detailed Quran in form of a Book. Also there is not a single verse in the Quran which says “O you who believe establish (AQIMU) salats (closenesses/attachments) at these (Isha & Fajir) specific times”. Since the Quran is available for the believers So for us as believers there are no specific times to receive the message from the Quran or to deliver the message of the Quran to the other people.

THERE IS NO COMMANDMENT FOR BELIEVERS TO ESTABLISH SALAT (FOLLOWING CLOSELY) AT SPECIFIC TIMES

The commandment of establishing (AQIMI) the Salat (following closely) at specific times was actually the command to the Prophet Muhammad only to recite the Quran to the Believers at specific times and the Believers were required to attend these Salat (closenesses/attachments).

In Salat Timing verses the word AQIMI is used.

AQIMI is the second person masculine SINGULAR form of the word used only for the Prophet.

1- PROPHET MUHAMMAD WAS COMMANDED BY GOD TO ESTABLISH (AQIMI) THE SALAT (FOLLOWING CLOSELY) IN VERSE 17:78-79

17:77 Such was the way of those whom We had sent before you (O Muhammad) of Our messengers. And you (O Muhammad) will not find any change in Our way.

17:78 Establish (AQIMI O MUHAMMAD) the Salat at the Sinking (Duluk) of the sun, until the darkening of the night [Following closely at Isha); and the Qur’an at dawn [Following closely at Fajir] the Qur’an at dawn is witnessed.

17:79 And from the night, you shall remain awake (fatahajjad) with it (bihi -The Quran) as an addition (Nafilatan) for yourself (Laka-O Muhammad), perhaps your Lord would grant you a station that is praiseworthy.

2- PROPHET MUHAMMAD WAS COMMANDED BY GOD TO ESTABLISH (AQIMI) THE SALAT (FOLLOWING CLOSELY) IN VERSE 11:114

11:112 So stand straight as you were commanded, and those who have repented with you, and do not transgress. He is Seer over what you do.

11:113 And do not lean towards those who have wronged else you will incur the Fire; and you will not have besides God any allies, and you will not be victorious.

11:114 And Establish (AQIMI O MUHAMMAD) the Salat (following closely) at two parts of the day, and the near side of the night [Salat (following closely) at Isha & Salat Fajir]. The good deeds take away the bad. This is a reminder to those who remember.

3- PROPHET MUHAMMAD WAS COMMANDED BY GOD TO ESTABLISH THE NIGHT SALAT 73:1-8 & 73:20

73:1 O you who are covered with your garments.

73:2 Stand the night except for a little.

73:3 Half of it, or a little less than that.

73:4 Or a little more, and arrange the Quran in its arrangement.

73:5 We will place upon you a saying which is heavy.

73:6 The time of the night is more effective and better for study.

73:7 For you have many duties during the day.

73:8 And remember the name of your Lord, and devote to Him completely.

SPECIAL NIGHT TIME SALAT (FOLLOWING CLOSELY) FOR THE PROPHET AND THE GROUP OF BELIEVERS

73:20 (O Muhammad) Your Lord knows that you rise a little less than two thirds of the night, and half of it, and one third of it; and a group of those who are with you. And God measures the night and the day. He knows that you will not be able to keep-up, so He pardons you. SO READ WHAT IS EASY (FOR YOU) OF THE QURAN. He knows that there will be sick among you, and others that go forth in the land seeking from the bounty of God, and others who are fighting in the cause of God, SO READ WHAT YOU CAN OF IT. And Establish (AQIMU) the Salat (following closely) and contribute towards purification and lend God a loan of righteousness. And whatever you put forth yourselves, you will find it with God, for it is better and a greater reward. And seek the forgiveness of God, for God is Forgiving, Merciful.

4- THREE PRIVATE TIMES FOR BELIEVERS 24:58

24:58 O you who believe, let those among you who are maintained by your oaths, and those who have not attained puberty, request your permission regarding three times:

1- before the Salat (following closely) Fajir, and

2- when you put off your garments from the noon time, and

3- after the Salat (following closely) Isha.

These are three private times for you. Other than these times, it is not wrong for you or them to intermingle with one another. God thus clarifies the revelations for you. And God is Knowledgeable, Wise.

The verse 24:58 is referring to the Believers at the time of Prophet Muhammad.

Believers were required to attend the Salat (following closely) held by Prophet Muhammad at the time of Isha and Fajir.

5- IN/DURING THE TIME OF GATHERING “YAWMI AL JUMUAAATI”

In/During the Time of gathering “Yawmi al JumuAAati” was not any particular day such as Jumma/Friday as most of the Muslim consider it today.

62:9 “O you who believe, when the call/announcement is made for following closely during a time of gathering, hasten earnestly to the remembrance of God and leave of the trade, that is better for you if you but knew.”

In/During the time of Gathering referred in the Quran as in the broader sense it may include the Gathering at marriage, Festivals, business hours, fairs etc.

During this time of gathering the believers were invited by the other believers to attend the Salat (following closely), where Prophet Muhammad gave Dawah of the Quran to the believers.

After the end of the Salat (following closely) 62:10, God advise the believers to spread in his land and search his bounties in other words continue their business activities as usual.

6- PROPHET MUHAMMAD RECITED/READ THE BOOK/QURAN IN SALAT (FOLLOWING CLOSELY) FOR PEOPLE

17:106 And a revelation that We have separated, so that you (O Muhammad) may read it to the people at intervals; and We have brought it down gradually.

6:105 “And thus do We repeat the verses and that they may say: You (O Muhammad) have given the Daras (lecture); and that We may make it clear to a people who know.”

27:92 “And that I (Muhammad) recite the Qur’an.” He who is guided is guided for himself, and to he who is misguided, say: “I am but one of the warners.”

76:23-26 We have sent down to you (Muhammad) the Qur’an in stages. So be patient (O Muhammad) for the judgment of your Lord, and do not obey from them any sinner or rejecter. And remember the name of your Lord morning and evening. And from the night you shall Surrender to Him and praise Him throughout.

17:78 Establish (AQIMI O MUHAMMAD) the following closely at the Sinking (Duluk) of the sun, until the darkening of the night [following closely at Isha]; and the Qur’an at dawn [Following Closely at Fajir] the Qur’an at dawn is witnessed.

17:79 And from the night, you shall remain awake (fatahajjad) with it (bihi -The Quran) as an addition (Nafilatan) for yourself (Laka-O Muhammad), perhaps your Lord would grant you a station that is praiseworthy.

29:45 Recite (O Muhammad) what is inspired to you of the Book and Establish (AQIMI O MUHAMMAD) the Salat (Following closely), for the Salat (following closely) prohibits immorality and vice; but certainly the remembrance of God is the greater. God knows everything you do.

7- BELIEVERS ARE ALSO COMMANDED TO RECITE THE QURAN IN SALAT (FOLLOWING CLOSELY)

35:29 Surely, those who recite the Book of God and Establish (AQAMU) the Salat (following closely), and spend secretly and openly from what We have provided them, they are seeking a trade that can never lose.

7:170 As for those who hold fast to the Book, and they establish (AQAMU) the Salat (following closely); We will not waste the reward of the righteous.

6:92 And this is A BOOK which We have sent down, blessed, affirming what is between his hands, and that you may warn the capital of the towns and those around it. And those who believe in the Hereafter believe in it, and it is they who are ever-mindful of their SALAT (closeness/attachment).

8- WHAT TO DO AFTER COMPLETING THE SALAT (FOLLOWING CLOSELY)?

4:103 Then, if you have COMPLETED THE SALAT (following closely), remember God while standing, or sitting, or on your sides. Then, if you are secure, hold the SALAT (following closely). Indeed, the SALAT (following closely) for the believers is a Book that is scheduled.

62:10 Then, once the SALAT (FOLLOWING CLOSELY) IS COMPLETE, you shall disperse through the land and seek the provisions of God, and remember God frequently that you may succeed.

9- PROPHET MUHAMMAD WAS COMMANDED TO KEEP INTERMEDIATE TONE IN THE SALAT

17: 110 “…and You (O Muhammad) shall not be too loud with your Salat (Bi Salati Ka), nor shall you say them secretly; you shall seek a path in between.”

10- REQUIREMENT OF GHUSIL/WUDU BEFORE SALAT (FOLLOWING CLOSELY)

The reason why there was a prerequisite of washing (Ghusil/Wudu) before the Salat (following closely) because the believers were going to be around the other believers/people. It was a basic command for cleanliness in public. That’s why in 4:43 it says UNLESS YOU’RE JUST PASSING BY THE SALAT (following closely) and not actually staying/attending the Salat (following closely). Don’t want to be smelling bad and not looking presentable around other people. You don’t need to perform (Ghusil/Wudu) 4:43 or 5:6 to read the Qur’an alone.

It is clear that the Ghusil/Wudu is only required while establishing the Salat (following closely) in congregation.

CONCLUSION

According to the Quran at the time of Prophet Muhammad, it was duty of Prophet Muhammad as a Messenger to deliver the Message of the Quran to the believers because only he was with the Quran at that time.

According to the Quran at the time of Prophet Muhammad, Allah commanded Prophet Muhammad to AQIMI (establish) the Salats at specific times 17:78-79, 11:114.

According to the Quran believers at the time of Prophet Muhammad were required 24:58, 4:102 to attend these Salats held or led by Prophet Muhammad.

According to the Quran at the time of Prophet Muhammad, believers were required to perform Ghusil or Tahara or Tayamum to become freshen up and to become clean 5:6 & 4:43 before participating in the gathering or congregation held or led by Prophet Muhammad.

According to the Quran there is not a single verse which directly commands the believers to establish (Aqamu) the Salats at the specific times.

Prophet Muhammad can not establish the Salat for us today at these specific times 17:78-79, 11:114 because he died in year 632 AD and left behind a complete and detailed Quran.

So for us there are no specific times of Salats. We can Aqamu (establish) Salat by reading the Quran with understanding at Any time, Facing Any direction, Alone or in form of gathering or congregation and apply this guidance in our daily lives.

1- If a believer wants to establish the Salat (following closely) ALONE then he/she is required to read the Quran with understanding at ANY TIME and No Ghusil/Wudu is required but it is preferable to cleanse oneself before Salat.

2- If Believers wants to establish Salat (following closely) in form of congregation then one person will read the Quran with understanding and other will listen to him/her. Ghusil/Wudu is required while establishing the Salat in congregation.

3- Meditating on the Quran in Salat (following closely) requires three phases

A- Qiyam (stay at a place).

B- Rukku (Taking heed on the divine commandments/Message/laws of God).

C- Sujud (Submitting/Surrendering to the divine commandments/Message/laws of God).

  1. Hi there, peace.
Interesting article (I am researching the idea that contact prayers (as traditionalistsoon understand) aren’t in the Quran but there are some parts of your article I don’t think add up and I kindly ask you to clarify:
Your point 8 for me does not make sense. If you “finish/complete” something, it implies it’s a “thing”, not an intangible concept like closeness or nearness – could you please rephrase this for me or explain so I can better understand what you want to say? For me,nearness is something you achieve and always have with you,to a greater or lesser extent, not something you do and then finish.
You make a point of how the orders to establish salat are said to Muhammad because they’re in 2nd person, singular/masculine. But (I believe, and correct me if I’m wrong) there is other stuff said in 2nd person singular which seems more directed to whoever is reading the book. Eg / in verse 4:77.
Also, if Muhammad was told to establish salat at certain times, is that not an indicator that we are to continue what he has established? Like an indirect way of saying that these are the times ordained by God and the Quran teaches us how they came about. Eg/ a marriage counselor may establish ground rules between a couple having relationship troubles as per what her training has taught her. Eg/ always listen to each other and speak in low voice. These are rules established by the councilor (who was advised to order them by someone higher (her trainer)) and the couple clearly should continue to observe them. Not sure if I explain that very well!
Hope to hear from you soon. I am getting very confused by all this and don’t know whose translation to believe and have found no version which I am completely satisfied by.
    Many thanks.

    • Saeed Talpur says:

      Peace Julia,

I am happy that you are researching the concept of Salat from the Quran. In order to understand point no 8. I would like you to understand this.

According to the Quran It was duty of Prophet Muhammad as a Messenger to deliver the message of Quran to the believers because at that time only Prophet Muhammad was with the Quran.

According to the Quran Allah commanded Prophet Muhammad to AQIMI (establish) the Salats at specific times 17:78-79, 11:114.

According to the Quran believers at the time of Prophet Muhammad were required 24:58 to attend these Salats held by Prophet Muhammad.

According to the Quran believers were required to perform Ghusil/Tahara for cleanliness in gathering/congregation before attending the Salats held by Prophet Muhammad.

According to the Quran there is not a single verse which directly commands the believers to establish the Salats at specific times.

Prophet Muhammad can not establish the Salat for us at these specific times because he died in year 632 AD and left behind a complete and detailed Quran.

So for us there are no specific times of Salat. We can Aqamu Salat by reading the Quran with understanding at Any time alone or in form of gathering/congregation and apply its guidance in our daily lives. Ghusil/Tahara would be required during reading the Quran in gathering/congregation.

The question is are all “o you who believe” verses applicable to us ?

The Answer is No. The commanding verses which begin with “O You Who Believe” are not applicable to us because most of the verses are directly referring to the believers at the time of Prophet Muhammad.

Here are some verses 33:53, 49:2, 58:12-13 & 9:123 as an example from the Quran.

O YOU WHO BELIEVE, DO NOT ENTER THE HOMES OF THE PROPHET

33:53 O you who believe, do not enter the homes of the prophet unless you are invited to a meal, without you forcing such an invitation. But if you are invited, you may enter. And when you finish eating, you shall leave, without staying to wait for a Hadith. This used to bother the prophet, and he was shy to tell you. But God does not shy away from the truth. And if you ask his wives for something, ask them from behind a barrier. This is purer for your hearts and their hearts. And it is not for you to harm the messenger of God, nor that you should marry his wives after him. This is indeed a gross offence with God.

O YOU WHO BELIEVE, DO NOT RAISE YOUR VOICES ABOVE THE VOICE OF THE PROPHET

49:2 O you who believe, do not raise your voices above the voice of the prophet, nor shall you speak loudly to him as you would speak loudly to each other, lest your works become nullified while you do not perceive.

O YOU WHO BELIEVE, IF YOU WISH TO HOLD A PRIVATE MEETING WITH THE MESSENGER

58:12 O you who believe, if you wish to hold a private meeting with the messenger, you shall offer a charity before you do so. This is better for you, and purer. If you cannot do so, then God is Forgiver, Merciful.

58:13 Are you reluctant to offer a charity before such meeting? If you cannot do such, and God has forgiven you; then you shall establish the Closeness/Attachment (Salat), and contribute towards purification, and obey God and His messenger. God is fully Aware of everything you do.

O YOU WHO BELIEVE, FIGHT THOSE WHO ARE AROUND YOU

9:123 O you who believe, fight those who are around you of the rejecters, and let them find strength in you; and know that God is with the righteous.

      NATION THAT HAS PASSED AWAY

By using the Quranic logic about the nations that has passed away we may come to this conclusion that these commandments in “O You Who Believe” verses were for the nation at the time of Prophet Muhammad which has passed away before us.

2:134 That is a nation that has passed away; to them is what they have earned, and to you is what you have earned; and you will not be asked regarding what they did.

2:141 That is a nation that has passed away; to them is what they have earned, and to you is what you have earned; and you will not be asked regarding what they did.

      CONCLUSION

The direct audiences of verses “O YOU WHO BELIEVE” were the believers at the time of Prophet Muhammad.

We know that the Quran was revealed in 7th century and we are living in 21st century.

So as the believers we only have to take the lesson and idea from the verses which were meant for the believers in 7th century.

      SO WHAT IS SALAT ?

Salat (Closeness/Attachment) is the remembrance of God by reading the message of God with understanding alone or in form of a congregation

      Facing any direction
      At any time and
      At any place
Mutually agreed and arranged by the believers.
      Ghusil/Tahara/Tayammum required in congregation.

Method of establishing the Salat (Closeness/Attachment) is that Believers read the passage of the Quran then take heed (Rukku) on the message from God and surrender (Sujjud) to the commandments of God with humility.

Believers apply this understanding in their daily life. This Closeness/Attachment (Salat) to God’s message will help them to do good deeds and prevent them from committing the evil or bad deeds.

  2. roohi says:

I really read all the article i belive quran to be complete, fully detailed and nothing have left behind in the holy book but some article also confuse me one is
1.Allah changed the holy direction in verse 2:143-144 of the Quran. And he blathers on about it in the rest of the verses in this section of Surah 2.

And We appointed the qiblah which ye formerly observed only that We might know him who followeth the messenger, from him who turneth on his heels. In truth it was a hard (test) save for those whom Allah guided. … We have seen the turning of thy face to heaven (for guidance, O Muhammad). And now verily We shall make thee turn (in prayer) toward a qiblah which is dear to thee. So turn thy face toward the Inviolable Place of Worship, and ye (O Muslims), wheresoever ye may be, turn your faces (when ye pray) toward it. 2:143-4
amd second id that allah is punishing us for not praying io hell fire here is the verse
    2. What led you into Hell-Fire? They will say; ‘We were not of those who prayed;’ (The Noble Quran, 74:42-43
3, So woe to the worshippers who are neglectful of their Prayers, those who (want but) to be seen (of men). (The Noble Quran, 107:4-6)
what are all these verse about and just afraid that if i disregard 5 prayer i might be put to hell fire all my life i prayed and suddenly i am confused and scared

    • Saeed Talpur says:

Problem is that you are reading the Hadith based translation of verse 2:143-4 where they inserted the word prayer. Nowhere it is mentioned to face or sujjud towards Qibla or Kaba in these verses.

2:143 And as such, We have made you a balanced nation so that you may be witness over the people, and that the messenger may be witness over you. And We did not make the QIBLA (Place of Interaction) that you became on except to distinguish who follows the Messenger from those who will turn on their heels. It was a great thing indeed except for those whom God had guided; God was not to waste your belief. God is Merciful and Compassionate over the people.

2:144 We see the shifting of your face towards the heaven; So We will thus set for you a QIBLA (Place of Interaction) that will be pleasing to you: “So You shall set your face towards Restricted Mosque (Masjid Al Haram); and wherever you may be, you shall all set your face towards it.” those who have been given the book know it is the truth from their lord. And God is not unaware of what you do.

According to my understanding the change of QIBLA (2:142-145, 2:149-50) simply means the change of the Place of Interaction for Muslims at the time of Prophet Muhammad.

During the Time of Moses God commanded Moses and Aaron to make their homes in Egypt as Qiblas (Places of Interaction).

10:87 And We inspired to Moses and his brother: “Let your people leave their homes in Egypt, and let these homes be your QIBLAS (Places of Interaction), and Establish the Salat. And give good news to the believers.”

FACE TOWARDS THE MASJID AL HARAM

Face towards the Masjid Al Haram (2:144, 2:148-150) means Follow the Monotheism which Abraham followed.

The reason why God commanded believers to face the Masjid Al Haram whenever they go out to meet each other so that the believers could be united under monotheism as a group in order to launch a movement against the disbelievers and to liberate Kaaba from the idols and idol worshipers.

      KAABA (SYMBOL OF MONOTHEISM)

The Kaaba was built for guidance of the people 3:96 because it was the Symbol of Monotheism related to Abraham. Kaaba was a Qibla (Place of interaction) for believers at the time of Prophet Muhammad. Nowhere God commanded to worship it.
